Veteranka - Women at War
Documentary Short
In 2022 all military roles were open to women in Ukraine, but they have been on the front line far longer than just the last year. This is the story of Veteranka, the Woman’s Veterans Organisation providing a support network for women on the front line.
Duncan met Katerina in early February 2022, she agreed to be a part of what has now become an ongoing project following 10 people from Kyiv through the first year of the war.
Katerina’s story is one of the more important stories that we have had the pleasure of being able to record. A veteran of the initial Russian backed invasion in 2014, she served as a medic on the front line in 2015. After her service she set up Veteranka, drawing on her own experiences in the army she set about supporting women on the front lines. Her organisation established a hotline for women to report sexual assault without the fear of having to go to superior officers, petitioned for female specific underwear and boots among many other things.
Now in 2023, in a country at war and with all military roles now opene to women, Veteranka is all the more important. That is why we are telling their story.
This film will look at what Veteranka stands for, speak to women the organisation has directly affected and will travel with one of their aid deliveries down to the eastern front.

Duncan has been working on an ongoing project in Ukraine for the past year. He is a Director of Photography having started a career as a camera operator in 2014 and has worked with a range of clients from the likes of Adidas to Oxford University Press.
Having family and friends in Ukraine he is committed to telling the stories of Ukrainians to the world.

Capucine is a London based award winning Producer, Director and 1st AD with close to 10 year's experience working on Commercials (i.e. Lenovo, Capri Sun, Chanel…), Films, TV, Photoshoots and online content.
Maud Tavoillot
Assistant Producer

Maud is a producer and production assistant based in Paris. After studying international relations and social sciences, Maud worked as an apprentice in an audiovisual production company working on both fiction and advertising projects. Maud has since moved into further producing roles on various exciting projects.
Elina Veksler
Editor

Elina Veksler is a Ukrainian visual artist and video creator. She is an established photographer having started in the industry in 2010. Elina started working in video production as a camera operator and editor in 2018.
